So much else is going on, but let’s pause and declare that the main idea right now is Valentine’s Day! Can we suspend all other reality for the moment and focus on a time that conjures feelings and memories of sweetness, of love and romance, of hearts and flowers?

Personally, chocolate, lots of red presents, and cuddly puppies leap to mind for me. How about you? Let’s be each other’s valentines this year by thinking about what is special about being or sending a valentine. I’m sending one to every ElderChick and friend of ElderChicks. I send dozens of valentines to older folks I know! I love sending cards and they love mail! I am especially happy to send cards to those in nursing homes! And the best deal ever is the $1.00 helium balloons at the Dollar Tree! Love taking those to people at the nursing homes!

Greetings to all the people who make this world sweeter… I am passing on my St. Valentine’s Day kisses to The Elephant Sanctuary in TN who looks after abused and/or old circus elephants. Hugs to my friend Laura who is in a nursing home with Dementia at 52 years young….spending time with her makes me grateful that I knew her “when” and makes me humbled to know her “now”. heartValentines Day…. 1938   …6th grade…. eleven years old….  Head full of  “Shirley Temple ” curls.  Our desks were the kind that one pulled up the top and the school “stuff” was inside.  An inkwell was in the top. I bought cards for everyone in the class.  They were distributed  by putting them in the students’ desks.  Paul was in love with me (he thought).  No cards for him…He would carve hearts out of wood and place them in my desk.  I realize  that I broke his “heart “when I made light of this most thoughtful gift.  I regret this neglect to this day…..  I wonder where he is to-day………..
